Angela Thomas, Deputy Principal From the Assistant Principal, Teaching and Learning – Middle Years I would like to thank all the parents, students and staff who engaged in the Parent Student Teacher Conference on Tuesday, 30th April. A lot of constructive conversations were had with not only affirmations but also strategies for improvement moving forward. It is hoped that, as a collective, we can work together to bring out the best in all our students. Following from these interviews, some students in Year 9 may have decided that a change of subject might be needed for Semester 2. Please note that Year 7 and 8 students rotate electives and do not have subject choices until moving into Year 9. Year 9 students are currently undertaking their Semester 1 subjects. Should you wish to request a change of subject for Semester 2, there will be an opportunity towards the end of this term. I will send an email out just prior to the window opening with details on how to request a change. Please be mindful that changes will be dependent based on spaces available. Katrina Dalglish, Acting Assistant Principal (Teaching and Learning, Middle Years) From the Pastoral Team Year 12 Uniform The Year 12 cohort was reminded during home room this week, of their responsibility to wear the full College uniform correctly. Our uniform motto again this year is for students to stay neat and complete”. This is particularly important for our older students who act as role models for the rest of the College If students are unsure of the uniform requirements, they should direct their attention to the College Diary p13 which confirms the College uniform policy expectations. If they still have queries, students can seek clarity from their homeroom teacher. The College will again be running lunchtime detentions for those students who are unwilling to take pride in their appearance or remain diligent in wearing the uniform correctly. Of course, we are confident that our senior schooling students will make the right choices and remain out of the detention room. A quick reminder to our Year 12 families, that the senior jersey (pictured below) is not a formal uniform item and is only to be worn on Thursdays with the College sport uniform. Tony De Luca, Pastoral Leader – Year 12 Year 9 Year 9 Relationship and Sexuality Education In a few weeks’ time, Year 9 students commence a dedicated Relationships & Sexuality Education unit through their Ways & Means (WAM) subject which will continue through the remainder of Term 2 and Term 3. This runs in parallel to a similar unit being undertaken in Year 9 Health & Physical Education. Relationship and sexuality education provides young people with the knowledge and skills to understand their bodies, make healthy choices, and form respectful relationships. It goes without saying that parents and caregivers play a key role in communicating this information to them. Students can start school-based apprenticeships/traineeships, undertake work experience, attend a TAFE at school course one day a week, commence one of the many certificate courses delivered on campus, get a taste of university with an early start program, or study for an ATAR. Career education is an important element in preparing our students to start thinking about Year 13 and how to successfully prepare for employment, training, or further education.
